Why this kit matters
The P-400 was a variant of the Bell P-39 Airacobra, originally intended for export to the Royal Air Force. When the RAF found the aircraft unsuitable for their needs, many P-400s were redirected to the United States Army Air Forces and saw action in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. The P-400 was distinctive for its 20mm cannon and unique mid-engine design, which set it apart from other fighters of its era.
Despite its limitations at high altitude, the P-400 proved effective in ground-attack roles and low-level combat. Its service in the Solomon Islands and with the famous "Cactus Air Force" on Guadalcanal made it a memorable part of aviation history. Building this model offers a hands-on way to connect with the story of the pilots and crews who operated these aircraft in challenging conditions.
