In March 1941 NELSON supported the landing raid on the\u003cplacename w:st=\"on\"\u003eLofoten\u003c\/placename\u003e\u003cplacetype w:st=\"on\"\u003eIslands\u003c\/placetype\u003e,\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003e\u003ccountry-region w:st=\"on\"\u003eNorway\u003c\/country-region\u003e\u003c\/place\u003e, against German factories producing fish oil and glycerine. The same year NELSON transferred to the\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003eMediterranean\u003c\/place\u003e, taking part in one of the Malta Convoys. In November 1942, NELSON was active in the Operation Torch landings in French North Africa. In July 1943, NELSON supported the Allied invasion of\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003eSicily\u003c\/state\u003eOperation Husky, and the\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003e\u003ccity w:st=\"on\"\u003eSalerno\u003c\/city\u003e\u003c\/place\u003elanding in September 1943. On September 29th 1943, General Dwight D Eisenhower, on behalf of the Allies, and Marshal Badoglio of\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003e\u003ccountry-region w:st=\"on\"\u003eItaly\u003c\/country-region\u003e\u003c\/place\u003esigned the Italian surrender agreement aboard NELSON.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003eIn 1944, NELSON took part in the\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003eNormandy\u003c\/state\u003elandings, subsequently transferring to the Indian Ocean to participate in the war on\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003e\u003ccountry-region w:st=\"on\"\u003eJapan\u003c\/country-region\u003e\u003c\/place\u003ein August and September 1945.
