Following the crew's successful efforts that prevented capsize,\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003eCALIFORNIA\u003c\/state\u003ewas refloated on March 25th 1942 and made for\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003ePuget Sound\u003c\/place\u003eship yard for rehabilitation and modernisation, completed by January 1944. With sister\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003eTennessee\u003c\/state\u003e,\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003eCALIFORNIA\u003c\/state\u003eparticipated in the invasions of Saipan, Guam and Tinian in June and July 1944, and in the Mariana and\u003ccountry-region w:st=\"on\"\u003e\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003ePalau\u003c\/place\u003e\u003c\/country-region\u003eislands invasions from June to November 1944.\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003eTennessee\u003c\/state\u003ecollided with\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003eCALIFORNIA\u003c\/state\u003ein the Pacific on August 23rd 1944, both ships sustaining damage, with fatalities on\u003cstate w:st=\"on\"\u003e\u003cplace w:st=\"on\"\u003eCALIFORNIA\u003c\/place\u003e\u003c\/state\u003e.
