The primary role of the Su-27 was to provide defense against American bombers, USN ships and provide Soviet bomber escorts. There have been many improvements over the years resulting in numerous variants of the Su-27. The export variant, the Su-27SK was sold to China and eventually developed into the license-built Shenyang J-11.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Indonesian Air Force (Tentara Nasional Indonesia Angkatan Udara – TNI-AU) purchased several Su-27 family aircraft from Russia, Su-27SK, Su-27SKM, Su-30Mk and Su-30MK2. Between 2003 and 2013 sixteen Flankers were received by Skadron Udara11 (11 Squadron) at the Iswahyudi AB. Of the sixteen aircraft two were Su-27SKs with serials TS-2701 with code 01 and TS-02 with code 02. The Su-27SKs were modified from dedicated air-superiority fighters to multi-role fighter and attack aircraft.
